Guinea

According to the Report 2016/17 of Amnesty International among the main reasons that force guinenan people to left their countries there are an excessive use of force from the government, any freedom of expression and also flooding and ebola outbreak.

Here’s an extract of the report and the detailed explanation:

  • EXCESSIVE USE OF FORCE

On 17 June 2016, soldiers publicly ill-treated a lorry driver, sparking spontaneous protests in the northern town of Mali. The army used excessive force to disperse demonstrators, including using firearms and batons.

  • FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

Security forces harassed and arbitrarily arrested people expressing dissent.

  • TORTURE AND OTHER ILL-TREATMENT

Torture and other ill-treatment were reported. On 4 March, Ibrahima Diogo Sow was arrested and taken to the Anti-Crime Brigade in Kipé, a neighborhood of Conakry. The security forces suspended him by his hands and feet from a wooden bar and hit him with rifle butts and wooden sticks over three days

  • SOCIAL AND POLITICAL SITUATION

Guinea faces major socio-economic and political challenges.

Poverty and malnutrition rates are alarming, and the 2014 Ebola outbreak has made already vulnerable communities more insecure. On average, 55 percent of the Guinean population live below the poverty line, and unemployment is high, particularly among youth and women. The Ebola outbreak continues to have an economic impact, with curfews and trading restrictions limiting daily life and economic activities.
